Celebrating George Mason University’s Milestone – A New Record with the Largest Freshman Class Ever!
George Mason University is set to welcome its largest ever freshman class, with 4,500 students. This brings the total enrollment to over 40,000, a record for both the university and the state of Virginia. Impressively, 3,500 of these freshmen are from Virginia alone.

Not only are the numbers impressive, but the quality of the incoming students is too. A remarkable 71 percent of the freshmen have a GPA of 3.5 or higher.

This milestone is a moment of great pride for the university. George Mason's president, Gregory Washington, acknowledges the significance of the moment, stating, "Record students enrolled means record students graduating, record lives transformed, and record opportunity for regional businesses looking to hire our graduates."

In addition to the high number of new students, George Mason is also attracting a significant number of international students, particularly from India. Over the past three years, 1,500 Indian students have enrolled, many of whom are pursuing computer engineering or computer science programs.

Despite the increase in enrollment, George Mason is committed to maintaining the student-to-faculty ratio, which remains at 16 to 1. This, along with the university's impressive graduation rates (well above the national average), solidifies its reputation as a provider of high-quality education.

With a six-year graduation rate of 71 percent and nearly 80 percent of graduates remaining in Virginia and the DC area, it is clear that George Mason University is making a significant impact on its students and the community as a whole.
