Looking for a fun place to trick or treat this Halloween? Look no further! Northern Virginia is home to some of the best places to get your scare on. From spooky haunted houses to pumpkin patches and corn mazes, there's something for everyone in this list. So grab your costume and get ready for some frightfully good fun!


1. Leesburg 

Leesburg is the perfect place to enjoy a small town Halloween. Main Street will be lined with Trick or Treaters and businesses handing out candy. There will also be a costume parade, live music, and face painting. Be sure to stop by the Leesburg Animal Park for a festive fall day out.


Morven Park - This historic park is hosting a Halloween event with hayrides, pumpkin painting, and a costume parade. Kids can also trick or treat at the historic houses on the property.

Oatlands Plantation - This historic plantation is hosting a Halloween event with games, crafts, and a scavenger hunt. After dark, take a spooky stroll through the grounds with your flashlight.


Haunted Houses - Northern Virginia is home to some of the best haunted houses in the area, including Nightmare on 19th Street, Loudoun Scream Park, and the Haunted Trail at Lake Fairfax. If you're looking for a good scare, these are sure to deliver!

2. Fairfax

Fairfax Corn Maze - Get lost in this 10-acre corn maze! There are also hayrides, a pumpkin patch, and a petting zoo.

The National Zoo - The zoo is hosting a Boo at the Zoo event with Halloween themed games, crafts, and entertainment. Kids can also trick or treat at over 40 stations throughout the park.


3. Clifton


Clifton Haunted Trail, Buckley Park- A trail of terror awaits, so watch out for monsters and stick to the trail. The PG-13 rated trail in Clifton’s Buckley Park includes scary skits with live actors, including local legend The Bunnyman.


4. Arlington 

Arlington is home to some of the best Halloween activities in the area. The Ball-Sellers House Museum offers a spooky ghost tour, while Marymount University is hosting a haunted house. For a family-friendly event, head to the Lubber Run Amphitheater for a showing of It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown.


Pumpkin Patches - There are several great pumpkin patches in Northern Virginia, including Cox Farms, Great Country Farms, and Temple Hall Farm. They're perfect for picking out the perfect pumpkin to carve!


5. Purcellville 

Purcellville is hosting a Halloween party that is sure to be a scream! The event will feature a haunted house, hayrides, live music, and much more. Don't miss the costume contest or the pumpkin carving. This is the perfect place to enjoy a safe and fun Halloween.


Purcellville Roller Rink - Put on your skates and enjoy a spooky skate session at this local roller rink. They'll have Halloween music and decorations, plus a costume contest with prizes.


6. Alexandria

Old Town Alexandria is the perfect place to enjoy a festive Halloween. Stroll down King Street which will be lined with stores and restaurants handing out candy. Don't miss the haunted house at Gadsby's Tavern Museum or the costume parade at the Torpedo Factory Art Center. Finish off your evening with a visit to one of Alexandria's many pumpkin patches.

Del Ray Halloween Parade - Don your best Halloween costume and join in one of Del Ray's favorite traditions. The annual Del Ray Halloween Parade welcomes children, pets, and strollers in costumes to march in their favorite Halloween costumes. Prizes are awarded in multiple categories including Best Decorated Stroller and Best Pet Costume.



Great Country Farms - Pick your own pumpkins, take a hayride, and try your hand at the corn maze at this family-friendly farm. They also have a moon bounce, playground, and petting zoo.


7. Reston 

Reston Town Center is the place to be for Halloween fun. There will be live entertainment, Trick or Treating at the businesses, and a costume contest. The event will also feature a showing of Hocus Pocus on the big screen. This is the perfect place to enjoy a safe and family-friendly Halloween.


Halloween House & Trick or Treat Trail

Meet a fun cast of Halloween characters and animals at Reston's Walker Nature Center. The nature-themed Trick-or-Treat Trail and Halloween House are non-scary and kid-friendly.



Boo at the Zoo, Roer's Zoofari - Join Roer's Zoofari for a fun-filled Halloween. Guests will get candy at walk-up stations throughout the park. The event runs all day and also features a pumpkin patch, scavenger hunt, and more. 


8. Vienna 

Vienna is hosting a Halloween event that is sure to be a blast! There will be live music, hayrides, a costume parade, and much more. Be sure to stop by the pumpkin patch or the apple cider stand. This is the perfect place to enjoy a safe and fun Halloween.

Halloween Parade - Don't miss Vienna's 76th annual Halloween Parade. The 2022 theme is Time Machine so get ready to travel through Vienna's part, present, and future. The parade includes floats, bands, costumed kids, and more.

Halloween on the Green- Head to the Vienna town green for spooky crafts, games, a petting zoo, live entertainment, and more. The event is free but registration is required.




Spirits and Spirits- Costumed kids of all ages can join in the costume parade and contest in downtown Occoquan. Allow time to visit the Haunted Maze and Spirit Garden and vote for your favorite decorations and costumes at area businesses.


10. Great Falls


Halloween Spooktacular- Children up to age 12 are encouraged to wear their Halloween costumes for the Halloween Spooktacular. Visit the Haunted House, enjoy trick or treating with local merchants, and enter your costumed pets in the pet parade.

Visit the ghostly Haunted House created by Boy Scout Troop 55 if you dare.  Don't forget to stop by the eerie porch at Adeler Jewelers!


Enjoy spooky music throughout the evening thanks to members of the Langley High School Band.  Have the Optimist Club take a family picture!
